Subject: Mystery Solved
Security: Public

The mystery of my company's layoffs was solved today.
So they laid off my boss and then every individual member of my team (I was the second to last to go) They're giving me four weeks severance, plus they held one paycheck back at the start, so from what I figure, I've got about four more paychecks which pretty much gets me to the end of January. I've also got my security deposit from this place coming to me (hopefully), so I should be ok for a while. Considering I was going to start interviewing for teaching jobs then, I guess this is actually not too big a deal. I really did hate that job, it will just be rough having to be responsible with my money. No more lighting my cigars with hundred dollar bills. :-(

The good news is that this will leave much more time for stuff like blogging and laying around my apartment (the important things in life)

I took three exams over the course of nine hours on Saturday.

How was your weekend?

Sorry to hear the bad news...at least you've got a golden parachute to help you get through the next couple of months.
If you're ever looking for cheapo stuff to do, Ann and I are pretty poor these days and are always searching out inexpensive/free things :)

Oh no - I hope you don't have to sell your Phil Collins album.

"They're giving me four weeks severance, plus they held one paycheck back at the start"

Wait...so like you had to make a security deposit to work there?

I can't imagine how much being laid off sucks. Even when you hate your job, there's power in leaving on your own terms. I'm sorry your cigar-lighting ways will be forced to change.

Joshua and I went to see Kristin Hersh in Chicago yesterday, and it was the first time seeing her in middle-America. I said to him, "I'm so used to at least knowing all the people at these shows, it's weird to see her in such a new place." To which Joshua, who you probably barely remember, said, "I know! Where's Lucky?!" :)

When you can still see the positive side of getting laid off, it's a great sign of how in control you are.
Hating you job makes it much easier!

My weekend sir? Sat was work from 9.45 - 6pm, followed by a few drinkipoos in the local. I bumped into one of our friends who we visited in Sydney - they have re-emigrated back to the UK - a bad sign for Oz.

Sun was cleaning the house and visiting Mum in hospital with Dad.
This craziness was followed by writing a Christmas card list then a dozen cards. "Unleash the hounds of ZZZzzzzzzz!"

I'll keep an ear out for anything I think you might find interesting in the job market, for now though I only found this for you:

Man, being laid off sucks, but during the holidays is just insult to injury.

I have no idea what kind of work you're qualified for, but if you want to send a resume my way, I can pass it to HR at my company (www.natekinc.com).

Very sorry to read that.
I am awaiting a letter that might tell me if I have a job after March. It's all a bit cr&p.

As much as this sucks, it sounds like the timing isn't all that terrible, and this could be a nice few weeks to have off.
